Yesterday we made our first attempt at strawberry picking at De Lange's Redberry Farm. It was a very hot, muggy day. But we still had fun. Daddy and Mommy picked lots of strawberries...Rebecca ate lots of strawberries :) She did pick some, but mostly was interested in pointing out all of the red berries and showing them to us. And sampling them. I don't think Abram knew we were ever there. He slept the whole time. He made it a little hotter for Mommy, but he was comfy. We ended up with about 20lbs./12 qts. of strawberries. Now hopefully Abram and Rebecca will allow Mommy a little time to freeze, dry and bake with them so we can enjoy them year round.

Very cool!!! Out of curiosity, how'd the price compare to buying a flat and a half at the farmers' market? Maybe I'll have to see if the strawberry farms by us still have you-pick berries next week. I think it'd be so fun!
They were $1.50/lb. to pick. I think it's probably cheaper than the fm. But I didn't compare. Maybe $1/qt. cheaper? It is hard work though :P
Do they spray insecticides, fungicides, or herbicides? Doing the math in my head, it's about $20/flat you-pick. I pay $32/flat for my organic or sustainable strawberries. That's a big savings!
I didn't talk to them about it. But here is a link to the info on their website. I think they are pretty good. We got two big boxes for $30. Good deal. It is literally 30 seconds from my grandparents' house :)
