15 Month Check Up

Rebecca turned 15 months old on Friday. Our little girl is growing up so quickly! She had her check up yesterday. She's a strong, healthy toddler. Over the last week or so we noticed that Rebecca seemed to be able to reach so much more on tables, reach door knobs, climb on more things, etc. She just looked taller all of a sudden. And as soon as the doctor walked in the room yesterday he was like, wow, she sure has grown! She sure has! She is now 31" long! She grew about 3" in the past few months. We can definitely tell she is starting to thin out. She weighs 23 lbs. 14 oz. Both her height and weight are in the 50th-75th %. From birth until now her height had always been in the 25th% or lower. We're anxious to see if that trend continues and she's taller like the Voogts or if it will slow back down and she'll be shorter like the Hollebooms :) The doctor said he expected to see a baby when he came in but instead he saw a little girl. He also noted how incredibly strong she is. We've noticed too :) She had 2 shots...MMR and chicken pox. She didn't like it, but she was a trooper. She'll get a couple more at her 18 month visit and then they are done until kindergarten!!

The doctor was amazed at how smart she is :) He said she has some 2 year old skills. He said with the skills she's already showing and both parents being engineers she'll likely have a pretty high IQ :) Our challenge will be to keep her challenged.

Rebecca continues to learn new things and amaze us every day. She is saying 2 word and 3 and 4 syllable phrases. Yesterday she was walking around saying "Hello Daddy," holding either her hand or her play phone next to her ear. While helping Mommy fold laundry the other day she learned the word underwear...as clear as can be, full 3 syllables she said "un-a-wear." She is getting pretty good at coloring. And if you say the word color she gets super excited. She definitely knows what it means. Rebecca is getting better at counting. She can now say all of the numbers 1-5 and 9. But she doesn't say them all in a row. Sometimes it's 2, 4, 5. Sometimes she adds in 3. You just never know :) Rebecca still loves to read and look at photo albums. This week she has learned the names of all of her aunts and uncles. Her favorite to say seems to be "an du-wee"...aunt Julie. She also says "wyan"...Ryan, quite a bit. And she says "unca dan," "shan," "kai," and "an tawa." Rebecca is getting much better at climbing...stairs, chairs, toys, etc. And she loves to rock in her rocking chair..."wok, wok." She is still very affectionate and cuddly. She piles her stuffed animals into her arms and snuggles with them. And before bed or if someone is leaving she says "I you" (I love you) and blows a kiss. She has also started blowing a kiss when she sees pictures of Mommy and Daddy...after seeing one of our wedding pictures where we were kissing :)

Rebecca is trying more and more food. She likes to try whatever Mommy and Daddy are eating. She says "bite, bite" because she wants what we have. This past week she tried homemade pesto. She had it on some noodles and said "peto pata"...pesto pasta :) We found that she loves blueberries. We'll stock up on more at the farmer's market today. And she tried goulash this week. She loves it! Pretty much anything with ground beef she loves. And peanut butter too. She calls it butter :)

Rebecca is growing well and learning so much. We're having a blast with her!

Sounds like it was a great appt! She'll be getting taller than Carson before we know it if she keeps growing 3 inches every few months! :) Its crazy how different the standards for vaccines are on the east side of the state vs. the west side, too. But all that matters is they get all their shots. :) Can't wait to see Rebecca at some point - it seems like its been awhile, but I guess it was just on Father's Day, wasn't it? Seems like its been more than a month!

Yay! It's exciting she can say our names! How nice to show her the pictures. We can't wait to see her in September!

Happy Anniversary...well, I'll just email the rest!
