Sledding

Uncle Jason and Aunt Julie let us borrow their baby sled. Rebecca got to try it out yesterday. We were only out for a few minutes, but Rebecca seemed to enjoy it. Daddy had fun pulling her around too :) We're trying to make the most of this wintry weather, but are very anxious for spring! Rebecca and Mary want to play outside.

Rebecca gets to go to the dentist with Mary today. Hopefully she'll do ok entertaining herself while Mary has her check up. They'll also be going to GE on Wed. to visit Mary's former co-workers. It will be fun to catch up with some old friends. Hard to believe it's been almost a year since Mary quit working at GE and started her full time job of being a mommy :)

Molars!!!!

So, I've confirmed that Rebecca is about to cut her first two molars! I've been watching one of them for a few weeks now, wondering if I was really seeing a tooth or not. I'm pretty sure that has been the culprit behind the nursing strike and the sleep issues. It's the bottom two first molars. They look so red and painful. Poor thing. I think one will break through any day now. In addition to those she is working on 3 other teeth...at least 3 that I've seen. She doesn't let me look in her mouth much. Seems like she is teething non-stop.

Rebecca was up multiple times in the night again last night and was up at 5 am today...and wouldn't go back to sleep. And she's fighting her afternoon nap at the moment. Poor little girl is beyond tired. Mary and Rebecca stayed home from church this morning since she was so out of sorts. Hopefully we can get her to nap soon. She'll crash at some point.

Rebecca has also been going through big developmental growth spurts lately. She has changed so much in just a few weeks, mostly physical stuff. And it seems as though a mental development spurt is starting...she wants to sit and read every single book she has! One right after the other, all day. And she's starting to "talk" more and more. She's on a "da da da" kick right now :)

We're still struggling with finger foods a bit. Rebecca knows what she likes. And if she doesn't want something, there is no way it's getting in her mouth. She'll devour cheese, toast, cheerios, yogurt melts, things like that. And she still does pretty well with regular baby food. But no luck on meat, soft veggie chunks, soft fruits, etc. She held a small piece of ground beef in her mouth for about a half hour the other day until Justin found it :P For now we just keep trying. I think she's warming up to hard boiled egg yolks. And she loves the millet muffins I made yesterday. She seems to do a little better with new foods if you let her feed herself with a fork or spoon. So we'll keep trying that.

We went out to eat at Red Robin last night. Rebecca had a blast! So much to see. She looked around, wiggled and jabbered the entire time. She loves to just watch people and take everything in.

We love watching Rebecca learn and grow. But it's hard work! So much to see and learn and try. Toddlers are busy! Hopefully the molars will be through soon and she can have a little break from the major teething. We're having so much fun playing with her and sitting and reading with her. It's amazing to see God's creation in action. We love our little miracle.

10 Months Old

Rebecca is 10 months old today. I can't believe we're quickly approaching 1 year! Rebecca is no longer our little baby. She has grown so much in the past few weeks. About 3 weeks ago she was content to sit in one spot and play. How things have changed! Now she is crawling everywhere (no more army crawling)...and she's getting speedy. She can pull herself up onto just about anything. And she cruises around the furniture. She changes and learns so much day to day. At this rate she'll be walking before we know it. Rebecca is very curious and likes to explore...especially the things she shouldn't :) Some of her favorite things to attempt even when Mommy says no are licking the bathroom floor and climbing up on the toilet :p The treadmill (while Mommy is on it of course) is very fascinating too. Rebecca is "talking" quite a bit too. She definitely knows who "ma ma ma" is :) And she knows that a ducky says "kauk kauk kauk." She still loves music. Rebecca has been in church with Mommy and Daddy the past 2 weeks and has enjoyed hearing the music and watching Daddy play the drums :) Rebecca has 6 teeth and is working on 3 more. She looks like such a big girl when she smiles :)

Rebecca has had 2 colds this winter and is just getting through a 2 1/2 week nursing strike. We're hoping to keep her healthy and eating well now :) We're gradually working on more solid foods. Rebecca's favorite food is definitely cheese! She gives a big grin just seeing it.

Now that she is so active Rebecca seems to be starting to slim down a little/not be gaining weight as quickly. She is about 27" long and around 21 lbs.

Rebecca has enjoyed seeing the Holleboom family 2 weekends in a row. And we'll see them again this Saturday when we celebrate Grandma Holleboom's and Uncle Kevin's birthdays. She loves to watch Carson...and copy what he's doing. We're also looking forward to seeing Grandpa and Grandma Voogt in March.

Happy 1st Birthday Carson!

Our nephew Carson turned 1 on the 13th. We went to Swartz Creek yesterday to celebrate with family and friends. We can't believe he's 1 already. Seems like he was just born. Carson is such a fun little boy. And he's growing up so quickly, already running around. Aunt Sara made a lot of great food! And Mary made the cake. Rebecca had fun trying out some of Carson's new toys. She really liked his power wheels :) It was great to see the Holleboom family again. And we're looking forward to seeing everyone again this Saturday to celebrate Grandma Holleboom's birthday. Feb. - April is birthday season for us :)

Happy Birthday Grandpa Holleboom

Yesterday the Holleboom crew met at a Calvin basketball game to celebrate Grandpa Holleboom's birthday. Rebecca and Carson were both entranced by the game and the people. They did so well sitting through the whole thing. They were so good that Grandma Holleboom bought them each a Calvin soccer ball :) At halftime Grandpa got to have a little shopping spree at the Spirit Shop as his birthday gift. It was a fun game...especially since Calvin won :) After the game we all came back to our house for a taco/nacho/salad bar and cake and ice cream. Great Grandpa and Grandma Van came by a little later for dessert. Rebecca and Carson had fun playing together again. Rebecca is fascinated with Carson...he seems to want to run from her ;) He wasn't so sure about sharing Grandma with his cousin either. We all had a fun time and hope that Grandpa enjoyed his birthday celebration! We're looking forward to celebrating Carson's first birthday next Saturday.
