6 days old

Rebecca is 6 days old today. She's keeping mommy and daddy very busy. But they are enjoying every minute of it. Yesterday she had her first outing to mommy's doctor for a check on mommy's incision. It was looking a little green/goopy, but the doctor gave the all clear - no infection. Just a little skin overlapping from using an old incision. Rebecca did great! She sat in the waiting room with daddy and was perfectly content. She rides well and enjoys being in her car seat. Rebecca is starting to try all of her big toys - swing, play mat and bouncy seat. So far she likes them all. She also had her first nap in her crib. She slept so soundly. She likes the firm matress. Hopefully she'll make the transition from the bassinet to the crib in a few weeks. Mommy and daddy are enjoying this time at home as a family. The transition back to work next week will be tough. For now we're just focusing on today and soaking it all in.

Rebecca has her 2 week check up on May 2.

Check out all the latest pictures of Rebecca. She now has a bit more pink in her wardrobe :)

Heading home

Rebecca got her first ride in her car seat today as Mom & Dad headed home from the hospital. We know she looks like a boy in this outfit...but now we have lots of cute girl clothes for her to wear! Rebecca passed all of her exams with flying colors, and at 4 days old is eating like a champ! Mom and Dad are looking forward to a week at home as a family as they learn how to keep up with this precious baby.

Introducing Rebecca Jean Voogt!

Rebecca Jean Voogt
7lbs., 5oz.
18 1/2 inches
born 8:00 AM, April 17, 2008

We arrived at the hospital at 5:30am this morning. After the usual preparation, 3 attempts to get the IV, and 3 attempts to get the spinal, the c-section started around 7:50. By 8:00, Rebecca was here! Dad managed to cut the cord, and Rebecca got cleaned while Mommy was stitched. Recovery time lasted a couple hours, and we were transferred to our post-partem rooom. Rebecca has been eating and sleeping well. Both she and Mommy are healthy and doing well.

It's Time!!!

Today's the day! We leave for the hospital in one hour. It feels very surreal. We are so ready and so nervous at the same time. We pray that everything will go smoothly and that by 8 am we'll have a new addition to our family. We'll post an update when we can.

38 1/2 week check up

Almost there. I had my final check up today. No major news. Blood pressure and urine still normal. My weight was about the same. The heartbeat was 154. The Dr. could feel feet on both sides of my belly. The baby has been doing the splits lately! It's out of room. We're now counting down the hours instead of days. We will be at the hospital at 5:30 tomorrow morning. The c/s is scheduled for 7:30. And Baby Voogt should be here shortly after :) We will call/send out emails/update the blog when we get a chance on Thursday. We can't wait to share the news with everyone!

37 1/2 week check up

I had another check up this morning. Blood pressure and urine are still good. My weight was exactly the same as last week, so it seems that the swelling/fluid retention isn't getting much worse. The heartbeat was 140. No valid results from the 2nd group b strep test. So if I go into labor before the c-section they will give me antibiotics for it to be on the safe side, else we don't have to worry about it. Even though I didn't realize it, I was having a contraction during my check up. The Dr. could feel it. So I guess I have been having some contractions without even knowing it. I have another check up the day before the c-section. 8 days to go!

Full Term!

Today is the 37 week mark...which means Baby Voogt is full term! Hopefully he/she will hold out until the 17th, but at least now the chance of any complications goes way down. 11 days to go. Check out the baby photo albums for the latest belly shot.

36 1/2 week check up

Today was a day full of doctors. I had an appointment with my psychologist this morning. She thinks I'm doing great. I won't be back to see her for a couple months now. This afternoon I had my 36 1/2 week check up. Blood pressure and urine are still good. I had to redo the group B strep test because they couldn't read the results last time. Not sure what that means. The baby's heartbeat was still a consistent 152. I'm still dilated 1 cm and 50% effaced. My OB checked on my swelling again. Since I've been having quite a bit of pain in my legs she thought it would be best to go ahead and do an ultrasound. So I had to drive across town to Blodgett. They did an ultrasound of my right leg. It took about an hour. Thankfully they didn't see any blood clots. So the pain must just be from the swelling. I'm building up a lot of fluid in my legs. I can tell by looking at them and by my weight gain. Not pleasant. But it's not long now until the baby arrives. 15 days to go! The baby is still very active and taking up every little bit of space possible. We're very excited to see how he/she acts out in the real world :) My next appt. is April 9.
