Happy Birthday, Mommy!

Today is Mary's 30th birthday.  We celebrated as a family yesterday.  In the morning Mary was pampered with some time at the spa - a massage, pedicure and manicure (thanks to her wonderful husband :) while Rebecca got lots of Daddy time.  In the afternoon we opened gifts.  Rebecca gave Mommy a Toby Mac CD.  We can't wait to have some great dance parties with that!  And Justin got Mary a beautiful pink opal necklace.  After gifts we did some shopping and then went out for dinner at Red Robin.  As usual Rebecca loved being out and about.  She was so excited to get her own ballon at the restaurant.  And she loved her special milk cup with a straw.  She drank 3x as much as she normally does with dinner :)  In the evening Justin and Mary had some yummy birthday ice cream cake (homemade chocolate chocolate chip cake with homemade vanilla ice cream in the middle).  Rebecca will be very excited to try some this afternoon.  It was a wonderful day full of fun, food and family.  Today we'll be taking it easy and maybe doing some extra napping to adjust to the time change :P

A Trip to the Library and a Fashion Show

Yesterday morning we didn't have any plans because the dishwasher repair guy was coming...at some point.  He ended up coming just after 9 and only staying about 10 min.  Long enough to tell us that the motor on our dishwasher is broken and it will cost a lot to fix it (which means now we are browsing for a new dishwasher).  After he left we had a whole morning with nothing to do.  So Rebecca and Mommy walked to the library.  Rebecca had a blast as always.  She loves playing with the train table.  She also enjoys the puzzles, blocks, puppets and magnet letters.  And the books of course.  We checked out 10 books.  We've already read through all of them multiple times, and she has some of them half memorized already.  She goes around reciting them :)  Rebecca really didn't want to leave.  She started running around the library trying to escape Mommy.  Hopefully we can start getting to the library more regularly now that the weather is warmer and we can walk.

Now that it's warmer, and rainy, it's time to think about spring outdoor gear.  We took out Rebecca's coats and hats yesterday to try on.  Thankfully they all still fit!  Or I should say they actually fit this year :)  We don't have to roll the sleeves on the jackets, and they aren't down to her knees.  As usual Rebecca had fun running around the house in coats and hats...hamming it up as usual.  It's tough to get a normal smile these days.  If you tell her to smile she closes her eyes and opens her mouth.  She thinks it's cute.  Hopefully in the next week or two we can go shopping for rain boots and some new sneakers.  Then Rebecca will be all set.

"All Done, All Done, All Done"

That's what we're hoping we can say soon!  That Rebecca will be "all done" with her sinus infection.  After another trip to the pediatrician yesterday we've confirmed that Rebecca does not have an ear infection or bladder infection...it's still a sinus infection.  She is on a new antibiotic now.  Hopefully this one does the trick.  The fevers are subsiding.  Her appetite is still not back to normal, but she did eat an ok lunch today.  We're restricting dairy for a day or two for her tummy.  She doesn't seem to mind...she hasn't even asked for her milk in days.  That is so unusual.  Sleeping is gradually getting better.  She sleeps most of the night but then gets up around 5:45 instead of 8 in the morning.  She's pretty worn out.  All in all she's in good spirits.  She still likes to be silly and be Mommy's kitchen helper and taste-tester.  We're praying this will all be over soon and that Rebecca stays healthy now.  On a positive note Rebecca did awesome at the doctor's office!  She didn't shed a tear.  She let the doctor chek her ears, mouth, etc.  She even talked to the doctor.  Maybe she's getting used to it with frequent trips.  Or maybe she just knows she gets stickers when she leaves ;)  She was proud of herself.  She had a big grin as we walked out :)  And she called herself a "big girl at the doctor."

Another Eventful Weekend

By eventful I mean more sickness :(  Our little trooper seems to be sick yet again.  Friday late morning she had a fever and she was super tired.  She fell asleep an hour before her normal nap time.  And then woke up after less than an hour.  The fever continued through the day.  And she kept saying her tummy hurt.  The pediatrician said to keep an eye on her and if it got worse to call the weekend service.  Friday night Rebecca slept with Mary in the rocking chair all night.  Her temperature spiked to over 104 around 10.  We managed to get her cooled down a bit and had to keep up with the Tylenol throughout the night.  Saturday she seemed to be doing better, but still didn't nap that well.  Saturday evening the fever came back and remained throughout the night.  Rebecca had another night with Mommy.  Today she has been much fussier than usual and isn't eating that well.  When she hardly wants to touch beef and ketchup we know she's not feeling well :P  We'll see how she does tonight.  We may have to make another trip to the pediatrician tomorrow.  Our guess is an ear infection.  But we'll see.  We also wonder if Rebecca being a thumb sucker is contributing to her run of illnesses this winter.  We may have to keep her out of nurseries, etc. for the next few weeks to make sure she gets back to full health.  Hopefully this will be the last of it.  We are very anxious for spring, fresh air and good health!!

We'll update if we find out anything else.  We're looking forward to Kindermusik, Daddy's spring break (he'll be home on Thursday!!!) and celebrating Mommy's birthday this week.

I Do Not Like Green Eggs and Ham...and I'm Still Not Sure About Snow

Today all Target stores were having a Dr. Seuss event in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday.  We decided to check it out and do a little shopping.  It was pretty small, but it was still fun to go.  Rebecca heard "Green Eggs and Ham" and got her own little shopping bag with snacks, a drink, a pencil and some games.  Rebecca is very interested in rhyming right now, and we just got her "The Cat in the Hat" (which she has to read multiple times every day), so it was a fun little family event this morning.  And Rebecca was our little Rebecca Lou Who (thanks for the nickname Uncle Dan :).

Rebecca took a long nap, so in the late afternoon we played out in the snow at home.  We built a snowman, made snow angels and did a little sledding around the yard.  When we came in we made homemade pizza for dinner (Rebecca's first time really eating her own slice of pizza...she likes to scrape the toppings off with her teeth :P).  After dinner we made a couple bowls of snow ice cream so Daddy could try it.  It was a great family day!

All Clear

Rebecca is finally over the flu (as are Mom and Dad:).  Yesterday she was back to a normal diet, and she seemed to do fine.  It sure was nice to be able to give her some milk again.  She really missed her "cup."  Rebecca is still trying to make up for a week of hardly eating.  She seems to be hungry non-stop :P  Yesterday morning she saw Mommy's homemade bagels and had to have one immediately...before she even got out of her sleep sack.
Rebecca also went back to the pediatrician yesterday for a follow up on her sinus infection since she is still coughing.  Thankfully her ears, sinuses and chest are all clear now.  Rebecca's nose can run again! :)  Hopefully as things start to drain properly now the cough will go away.

We are thankful that Rebecca is back to full health.  Hopefully today she'll get a little more sleep so she's not so grumpy ;o)
